Coniston

One of the smaller villages featured on this site, Coniston sits at the head of the lake of the same name.

Like all parts of the Lake District, Coniston is popular with walkers and cyclists but it also offers plenty for the more laid back tourist!

You can take a boat trip on the lake or ride the steam train, explore the castle or simply relax in the town with many small shops.

The accomodation here tends to be more geared towards the self catering market but there are also guest houses for those wishing to be looked after.

If you hire a car it's very easy to drive out to one of the many fine pubs in the villages around Coniston where you can enjoy a beer and some great home cooked food.
