Ambleside

This village is situated at the head of Lake Widamere and is probably one of the most well known of the Lakes villages.

There are many facilites on offer here and as a result the village can often get very busy especially in peak season. Parking in particular can be a problem so it may be best to leave the car behind and head on public transport.

Having said this, Ambleside is still a very attractive village with much to offer.

The energetic may wish to walk up Loughrigg or take a bike ride around the lake, alternatively you may wish to opt for a boat trip or a visit to one of the various museums or galleries.

As you would expect from a place of this size there is a lot of accomodation to choose from with many B & B's, several hotels and endless cottages to rent.

Eating and drinking here is also very good with lots of pubs and restaurants which serve food from tradtional English fair, through to Thai and Italian.
