The Lake District is primarily seen as a location for outdoor activities and thousands of people visit every year to take part in pursuits such as walking, mountain biking, rock climbing and kayaking.

With so much to offer, many tourists will return year after year and explore a different area of the Lakes.

While it's true to say that for most people the attraction is the beauty and vast open spaces, the Lake District also offers many other facilities for the tourist.

There are a number of large towns such as Windermere and Keswick which offer things like museums, theatre's, cinema's, bars and restaurants as well as many shops.

There are also many sporting facilities such as health clubs and golf courses too so the Lakes truely does offer something for everyone.

Covering such a large area means that you either need to use public transport or private car to get around so if you're flying into the UK and plan to visit the Lakes a hire car is a must.
